A Portland native and lifelong artist & arts advocate. Currently based between Portland and New York, Alexander performs, choreographs, and teaches as a freelance artist and has worked around the country and internationally for the past 11 years. Artists & companies over the years include Momix, Luna Negra Dance Theatre, NW Dance Project, artLab J, Cori Marquis + The NINES [IX], and a number of independent choreographers including the internationally acclaimed Doug Elkins with whom he has created and performed original roles/works. Alexander has had the privilege of having his own work presented at various shows & festivals around the world; in 2017, Dones received an Artist Exchange Award and was the only artist selected from the United States to teach and present at the New Dance for Asia Festival in Seoul, South Korea.
Current projects include soothsayer, an ongoing work-in-process that melds dance, text, and multi-media collaboration. Using Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy as a narrative thread, soothsayer aims to bring hope, humor, and a sense of enlightenment when faced with the questions of our origins, our current state, where we are headed, and what it all means (if anything at all).
