This Contemporary Funk master class is a fusion of technique and grooves. Blending classical with movement with our more modern movement of today. This is a Int/Adv class where we not only work on technique but performance quality and telling a story through movement and body language.

Waacking with JuJu Nikz

This Waacking master class is designed to train the body as well as the mind. Students will learn to push past boundaries with this total body workout. Waacking incorporates wild but controlled moves that follow a disco or funk beat. It has a strong emphasis on musicality, with arm movements up and around the head. You will learn some basic movements and techniques, play games, sweat, laugh, and create a combination from all the techniques learned throughout the class.

 

 

Contemporary Movement with Alexander Dones

SATURDAY: SEPTEMBER 22

This master class will focus on the exploration, sharing, and celebration of the self and of others through dance movement and physical expression by allowing ourselves to be tuned to the present moment and to free up our bodies, minds, and spirits.
Alex will lead dancers to focus on various improvisation tasks and movement phrasing, both individual and collaborative, allowing self-discovery through their own movement languages while both leading and following. Dancers of all levels/styles are encouraged to attend; dancers are given permission to modify and participate to the level & capacity in which they feel comfortable.

 

 

Experimental Contemporary Movement with Kristen Holleyman

This master class is dedicated to providing space for the exploration, inspiration, health, challenge and well being of the dancer/mover/human. Kristen's mission is to facilitate a supportive place of movement play and research, where community comes to move and be moved, and to provide tools and context in order to nourish creativity within the experimental contemporary dance realm. The class emphasis is on floorwork, where we explore our relationship to the floor with use of weight and momentum. We will also weave improvisation and choreography that includes an exploration in musicality, texture, availability, sensitivity, weight, flow, time, space, energy, instinct, momentum, emotion, and character, as we dive in and out of the floor. All styles are welcome. 

 

 

Salsa 101 with Heather Klawender

SUNDAY: JULY 15

If you’re not already in love with salsa, this class is for you! Salsa is a dance with deep Afro-Caribbean roots which centers around community and joy. In this 2-hour master class, you will learn the fundamentals of salsa dance including a brief history of the origins of salsa music and dance, timing and rhythms, body isolations, frame fundamentals and lead/follow connection, basic step variations, turn patterns and a touch of styling. You’ll leave with enough tools to feel comfortable dancing socially; including the ability to distinguish between the most fundamental latin dance music/styles. No experience required and no partner necessary. Come immerse yourself in this saucy, fiery, social dance that really lives up to its name!

 

 

Hip-Hop with Michael Munday

This high-energy Hip-Hop class infuses the latest styles of street dancing, while focusing on musicality and rhythm. Michael encourage's students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.

 

 

Club styles with Kumari Suraj

MONDAY: JUNE 18

Kumari Suraj's unique choreography tells the story of her experience as a multiracial human being influenced by dance cultures of the 1970s-1990s. Her body of work is the melting pot of her creativity. Be it traditional Whacking & Punking meet street jazz. Or her world renowned Frankie Douglas style mixing Dancehall, 90s Hiphop, House and African styles with Whacking. As one of the first vlogers to upload Waacking/Whacking choreography videos to youtube in 2006/2007, Kumari has spent the last 9 years crafting her signature style of movement.
