Full Circle

In October 2019, we had our annual celebration, Full Circle, where we bring the community together through various styles of dance classes, and support and partner with local businesses. Through this event, your donations helped us raise funds for the Steps PDX scholarship fund and our non-profit organization, Steps for Youth.

Nightmare Before Xmas

Our winter performance was a huge hit with two sold old shows! We are so proud of our students and teachers who put in an enormous amount of time and hard work into making this an incredible performance for our community. This year we invited and provided tickets to Rose Haven Day Shelter, Kairos PDX and Boise Eliot/Humboldt Elementary School. We are so grateful to all the families, volunteers, and community members who made these performances a success!

Fireside Chat Preview

Steps students and teachers showcased a sneak preview of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Students also shared their experiences through a Q&A and each spoke about what dancing at Steps means to them. This event was in support of students attending the International Association of Blacks in Dance conference. Your generosity helped make that experience possible for these passionate students.

Youth Day of Dance

International Association of Blacks in Dance

Students and staff members of Steps attended the IABD conference this January, where they attended classes of different dance styles, workshop sessions and witnessed performances by professional dance companies including, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem and Philadanco! to name a few. We are tremendously proud of our students who auditioned and received multiple scholarship offers to summer dance intensives and colleges! This could not have been possible without your generosity! THANK YOU!

Females + of February

We partnered with Sirens Dancers to host our second year of Females+ of February. During the month of February, each week, we highlight womxn teachers and choreographers, to lead workshop series classes in various styles of dance. Together, we raised $3,000 for Rose Haven Day Shelter, who provides safe shelter, food, clothing and advocacy to over 3,500 women, children and gender non-conforming folks experiencing trauma, poverty, physical and mental health challenges.

“It all started with Arthur Mitchell & Dance Theatre of Harlem”

In honor of Black History Month, we hosted an exciting seminar with former soloist and ballet master of Dance Theatre of Harlem, Joe Wyatt, who shared the history of dancers of color in the United States.
